Veteran infielder Hwang Jae-gyun (37) of the professional baseball team KT Wiz suffered a severe slump at the beginning of this season.

Professional baseball fell into a deep hole after failing to adapt to the automatic pitch judgment system (ABS) introduced in the league.

His batting average for the month of March was 0.172. He ranked 63rd out of 73 KBO League batters who met the required plate appearances.

Jaegyun Hwang also expressed strong dissatisfaction with ABS due to his frustration.

He was ejected from the game on April 26th after throwing his helmet when a low fastball inside the body was ruled a strike during an away game against SSG Landers. Later, he raised his voice in an interview, saying, "A pitch that cannot be hit becomes a strike."

The gazes of those around me were not kind.

There were louder voices blaming Hwang Jae-gyun for not being able to adapt to the system rather than the system itself.

Hwang Jae-gyun was under extreme stress.

Jae-gyun Hwang, whom we met after the game against Kiwoom Heroes held at Suwon KT Wiz Park on the 22nd, said, "At the time, I wasn't able to control myself properly," and "I was so stressed that I even ended up swinging recklessly."

Jaegyun Hwang received assistance from the KT data analysis team.

"The data team helped me a lot," he said. "When I looked at the 스포츠 data, I saw that the swing rate on pitches that flew outside the ABS strike zone was ridiculously high. From then on, I just gave up on pitches that crossed the border of the strike zone."

He erased all thoughts about ABS from his mind.

I focused on aiming for a ball that could be attacked without overthinking it.

He also reduced his training volume. Instead, he focused on basic training such as weight training. It was a way to reduce stress related to hitting.

My grades improved little by little.

From the end of July, he started producing hits at a frightening rate.

Hwang Jae-gyun continued his multi-hit streak (2 or more hits in a game) for 4 consecutive games starting from the game against Samsung Lions on July 27th, and had 4 hits each in the game against NC Dinos on the 2nd and the game against KIA Tigers on the 7th.

On the 22nd, in the game against Kiwoom, he hit his 10th home run of the season that decided the game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, with the score tied 2-2 and two outs, he hit a solo home run off a high slider off of Kiwoom's second pitcher, Kim Seon-gi, hitting it over the left field pole.

KT defeated Kiwoom 3-2 with this home run.

Hwang Jae-gyun recorded 1 hit, 1 RBI, and 1 run in 3 at-bats on the day, and his batting average since July 20th was .337.

He said, "I feel like my hitting sense has come alive these days," and vowed, "I will do my best to get better results."
